The Smith Band: Wonderworld

At a conference last month I had the privilege of hearing The Smith Band. Stephen Smith now serves as the Worship Pastor at First Baptist Church, Irving, TX, and they blessed me with a copy of their CD Wonderworld. You can hear tracks from the album on either their website or the Independant Bands site. I encourage you to check it out. The Smiths are super-nice folks, and they sound great—-both live and on CD.

The CD was produced by Nathan Nockels, and the songs express God-centered wonder at the stunning mercies of our great God.

My favorite track is titled “According to Mercy,” and its chorus goes:

“It was your love/That caused these blinded eyes to see/It was your love/That broke these chains and set me free/You came to save this life that was lost/According to mercy, that you’ve poured out on us”

Amen!

Aren’t these guys great? They led worship at Breakaway in College Station, TX for quite some time and were really encouraging the entire time I attended. I was real impressed with their honesty while leading, as well as their song writing abilities. Glad you got to hear them!

Stephen and Star Smith (The Smith Band) have impacted my life by the way they live their lives and lead worship. I had the privilege to run sound for Stephen and Star at Breakaway during the transition of a new lead speaker. Stephen and Star kept breakaway moving stable and worshiping our Lord while Breakaway walked by faith into uncharted territory in their ministry. The Smith Band also recorded Breakaway’s first official live CD. They captured “a night of worship” at Texas A&M’s largest student body ministries, as they lead us in original songs written by Steph and Star. I am the head worship leader at Manchaca Baptist Church in Manchaca Texas and will be performing “According to Mercy” from their Wonder World album tomorrow morning, Feb. 27th, 2011. Thank you, Stephen and Star for their ministry service. Shane
